We are pleased to inform you of the first acquisition made by our Italian portfolio company Italgel S.p.A. (“Italgel”). The gelatine and collagen manufacturer has acquired Protein S.A. (“Protein”), a collagen specialist based in Spain. The acquisition aims to strengthen Italgel’s position in the international market, particularly in the sale and distribution of collagen products. With over 30 years of experience, a large, diversified customer base, and optimal production conditions, Protein is the ideal partner for Itagel’s growth trajectory in the B2B and B2C sectors, offering an expanded range of collagen solutions to meet the customer demand.
Italgel is a leading company in the production of gelatine and collagen, with a wide range of applications covering various end markets such as food, pharmaceuticals, and dietary supplements. With its strong international presence, the company benefits from a broad network of first-class customers, global distribution partners, and close relationships with European suppliers. The company was founded in 1968 by the Vezza family and today employs around 100 people.
BU has held a majority stake in Italgel since May 2022. The partnership aims to consolidate the market position in Italy and abroad through organic growth and value-enhancing acquisitions. BU was instrumental in establishing the partnership between Italgel and Protein and will continue to support Italgel in its growth ambitions.
