New investment gets the year off to a strong start: Bregal Unternehmerkapital becomes Theobald Software’s new majority shareholder

We continued our growth story in early 2022 with a new investment. Funds advised by Bregal Unternehmerkapital (“BU”) have agreed to acquire a majority interest in Theobald Software GmbH (“Theobald”), with the Stuttgart-based software provider further expanding BU’s portfolio in the fast-growing European enterprise software market. Key objectives of our partnership with Theobald will be to drive the company’s growth across additional target markets, increase research and development investments, and further develop the company’s technology leadership in the SAP interfaces field.

Leading provider for SAP connectors strengthens portfolio

Theobald was established in 2004 and today employs approximately 40 people. With five branches in Europe, the US, and Asia, and over 3,500 customers worldwide, the firm is a leading provider of connectivity software to enterprise clients and SMEs globally. Theobald’s interfaces offer professional support for the integration of SAP systems into third-party systems for BI/Analytics, as well as databases, analysis platforms, and cloud solutions. They allow different systems to be connected, provide for smooth, high-performance data transfer, and thereby guarantee reliable integration processes.

Strengthening growth through innovation and patient capital

Closing of the transaction is expected during the first quarter of 2022. The founder, Patrick Theobald, will retain a significant stake in the company and will continue to support the business with his technical expertise, but will stand down from his management role in order to devote himself to new projects. Together with the current CEO, Peter Wohlfarth, BU aims to accelerate the software specialist’s international expansion and further develop the company’s continuous growth, both organically and inorganically.

We are looking forward  to a successful partnership with the Theobald team.

In addition to Theobald Software, BU’s recent software track record also includes ACTICO, GUS, proALPHA, SHD, PDV, Iptor and STP.
