The funds advised by Bregal Unternehmerkapital focus on mid-sized companies across a wide range of sectors in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Northern Italy. We target investments between EUR 50 and 250 million to acquire a majority or minority stake. We are particularly interested in market leaders and “hidden champions” with strong management teams, positive operating cash flow and an EBITDA of at least EUR 10 million at our initial investment. The majority of our investments originate from successfully implemented succession planning. These succession solutions, which are usually planned on a long-term basis and executed in close partnership with the shareholders, are based on our in-depth experience with the sustainable further development of successful family businesses.  Co-investment programmes that enable senior management to become shareholders in their companies can also be created. We work together with the respective management team to create a tailored investment concept. The aim is to provide the solid financing they need to pursue their expansion strategy. On average, there is a commitment to each investment for a period of between five and seven years. If necessary, capital for ten years or more can be provided as for example in our investment in novem. Most of the investments take the form of equity capital; however, a degree of external financing is possible if required. In every case, we recommend a conservative approach to bank borrowing. As with every decision Bregal takes, this is ultimately in the best interests of the company. Fundamentally, we believe that a lack of capital should never be allowed to limit the growth and development of a company.
